Service Categories
Classifying services for easier navigation and filtering
Service categories are labels you apply to service offerings so customers and staff can filter and find services quickly.
What Categories Are
Categories are a flat classification system -- there is no hierarchy or nesting. Each category is a simple label like "Vaccinations", "Health Checks", or "Consultations". A service offering can belong to one or more categories.

How Categories Appear
Public booking page: Categories display as filter chips at the top of the service list. Customers tap a category to show only matching services.
Admin bookings list: Staff can filter bookings by service category to narrow down the view.
Categories vs Offering Groups
These two features are often confused but serve different purposes:
| Feature | Purpose | Structure | Use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Categories | Filter and find services | Flat labels across services | "Show me all vaccination services" |
| Offering Groups | Organise service variants | Parent-child hierarchy | "Flu Vaccination" with Standard, Senior, Paediatric variants |
Categories work across unrelated services (e.g., both flu vaccinations and COVID vaccinations can share a "Vaccinations" category). Offering groups create a parent-child relationship between variants of the same service.
A service variant within an offering group can also belong to one or more categories. The two systems are independent and complementary.
