Timezone Awareness
How Light handles timezones for bookings across Australia
Australia spans multiple timezones, and daylight saving rules vary between states. Light handles all of this automatically so you do not need to worry about timezone configuration.
How Light Determines Your Timezone
Your pharmacy's timezone is set automatically based on your site's physical address. If your pharmacy is in Sydney, times are displayed in AEST/AEDT. If your pharmacy is in Perth, times are displayed in AWST. There is nothing to configure.
What Staff See
All times in Light are displayed in your pharmacy's local timezone. When you view the bookings page, create a new booking, or check the run sheet, every time shown reflects your pharmacy's location.
What Customers See
When customers book through the public portal, times are displayed in their browser's local timezone. A notice is shown alongside the available times indicating your pharmacy's timezone, so customers in a different timezone can see exactly when the appointment is in your local time.
Booking Confirmations
Confirmation emails and calendar invites (.ics files) include timezone-aware times. If a customer adds the appointment to their calendar, it will display correctly regardless of what timezone their calendar is set to.
Daylight Saving
Daylight saving transitions are handled automatically. When clocks move forward or back, Light adjusts accordingly — no action is required from you or your staff. Bookings scheduled across a daylight saving transition will still show the correct local time.
If your organisation operates pharmacies in multiple states, each site displays times in its own local timezone. Staff only ever see times relevant to the site they are working at.
