Understanding Required Fields
Which fields are required and when dynamic asterisks appear
The vaccination recording form uses dynamic asterisks (*) to indicate which fields are required. Some fields are always mandatory, while others become required based on the selected vaccine and date.
Always Required
These fields are required for every encounter:
- Date of Service — when the vaccination was administered
- Vaccine Code — selected from the filtered dropdown
- Dose — dose number in the vaccination series
Conditionally Required
These fields become mandatory (asterisk appears) for certain vaccines:
Batch Number
Required when the selected vaccine and date of service match AIR's mandatory batch reference data. When required, the label changes to "Batch *".
Route of Administration
Required when the selected vaccine and date of service match AIR's mandatory route reference data. When required, the label changes to "Route of Administration *".
Light automatically checks AIR reference data to determine which fields are mandatory for the selected vaccine. You don't need to memorise which vaccines require batch or route — the form will indicate this with asterisks.
Optional Fields
These fields are always optional:
- Funding Type — NIP, Private, State/Territory
- School ID — for school-based programs
- Administered Overseas — toggle with country selection
- Antenatal Indicator — toggle for pregnancy
